Description
Sulfacetamide is an organic compound with the formula C8H10N2O3S and an average molecular weight of 214.24 g/mol. Sulfacetamide belongs to the benzenesulfonamides, a subclass of benzene and substituted derivatives within the organic compounds. This compound is associated with 20 recorded sources. Within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and veterinary products, it is used in antibiotics, antiinfectives, gynecologicals, and anti-acne preparations. In the context of food, food processing, and cookware, it is linked to food preservation, the processing of meats, and the preparation of vinegar. It is also found in household cleaning and consumer products, including perfumes within detergents and soaps, bleaching agents, cigar cigarettes, other smoking requisites, and non electric simulated smoking devices. Additionally, it is released from electrical and electronic equipment, such as electrodes, television systems, hybrid capacitors, conductors or conductive bodies characterised by the conductive materials, and electrically stimulated smoking devices. Recorded exposure routes for the compound include oral, topical, ophthalmic, vaginal, and inhalation. At the molecular level, sulfacetamide interacts with three recorded protein targets. It acts as an inhibitor of dihydropteroate synthase (folP) and targets the folic acid synthesis protein FOL1 as well as dihydropteroate synthase type-1 (sul1).
