Description
Angiotensin II (C50H71N13O12) belongs to the amino acids, peptides, and analogues, a subclass of carboxylic acids and derivatives within the organic compounds. With an average molecular weight of 1,046 g/mol, Angiotensin II is a heavy molecule. It acts as an agonist or inhibitor of two protein targets: the Type-1 angiotensin II receptor (AGTR1) and the Type-2 angiotensin II receptor (AGTR2). The compound is found in or released from eight recorded sources, including electrical and electronic equipment such as antennas, television systems, gas filled discharge tubes with gaseous cathodes, and discharge tubes with liquid pool cathodes. Other sources include the preparation of wine or sparkling wine, the preparation of vinegar, other smoking requisites, and cardiac stimulants excluding cardiac glycosides. The recorded exposure route is intravenous. Angiotensin II is associated with several health effects. It is linked to cardiomyopathy (PMC12712907), heart failure (PMC6210295), and hyperglycemia (PMC9368651). It is associated with inflammation (PMC12028762, PMC6273216) and an increase in atherosclerosis (PMC10889477, PMC11351257) and proteinuria (PMC3136362). Regarding blood pressure, the compound is associated with hypertension (PMC4302234, PMC6151556) and an increase in blood pressure (PMC11277057, PMC12146500, PMC12722972, PMC6567131), though it is also associated with a decrease in high blood pressure (PMC12028762).
